NOTICE: I will be taking a long break from today onwards. The puzzles will continue as usual and so will the answers. From the 6th -13th, I will be "renovating" the site, making corrections here and there. So, I expect there will be a down time from past experience. Do not fret. After the 13th, I will only sporadically upload material when I am free. I am not slacking, just that I want to concentrate my energy and time on another XiangQi related project which I think is very needed to promote the game internationally. Please come here or go to my facebook page (icon on the left, below the menu bar) for further notices. Any inconveniences caused would be regretted. And again, I thank all for your support. According to my stats, over half a million pages from my site have been read last year. That is quite an accomplishment for humble me, and I am still rather computer illiterate for that matter. PS: Due to the fact that poc 1 and poc 2 puzzles are increasingly harder to come by, I have made a few adjustments to the number of moves required. Please go the link above to see them.
3rd Jan: GM Zhao GuoRong vs GM Liu DaHua in 2006. Very exciting match...too bad it ended that way for Black! And a million thanks must be given to Mr Angus MacGregor for pointing out a flaw in example 5 of P3 from Questionable Positions and How to Attack . I have made the necessary corrections. Thanks! 2nd Jan: I was slightly browsing through my site, but the pages did not seem to add up...I checked, and noticed that I had forgotten to upload an ancient manual 2 months back....lol. 25th Apr: Sorry for the early upload of the answers. I am going back to Singapore for 3 days, to garner support for my XiangQi dictionary. So far, over 100 definitions have been written, there are several hundred more to go. The research has been tough but fulfilling. I will need a short break and I will stop posting puzzles for one week. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. 29th July: I have finally found a little bit of time to transfer what is perhaps the best piece of material from Mr Peter Donnelly's website to mine. It shows the preface of a book by a Dane called Charles Kliene who is perhaps the first ever occident to introduce XiangQi to the West. And Mr Kliene was also the man instrumental in initiating Xie XiaXun into the ShangHai International Chess Club. We all knew what happened after that. No Kliene, no Hou Yifan. Period. I have tried to find another similar opening for Wed upload but could not. Hope I am more lucky for Thur and Fri upload. The main idea is to help you familiarize yourself with the opening and get a rough idea of how that particular variation has evolved.
1st Dec: Ans up till the 28th of Nov are out. Click here. Starting from Dec 2014, the daily puzzles, pocs, mmlms etc will be published only now and then when I have the time. Instead, I will upload a daily game played. Like in the past, the commentaries to the game will be uploaded a a few days later. The reason for this big change is that, number one, I have more than 3000, maybe 4000 puzzles on my site now, adding more would not seem to do much. Number two, to help with actual play, the games played by the greats have and always be a source of inspiration. Number three, my kids are getting older and demanding more of my time. I apologize for any inconvenience caused. Also published are the Nov archives. There has been little done due to my fever, which I have thankfully recovered.
