Smothered Checkmate 闷杀

This is another kill that is unique to Xiangqi.

The king can only move in the palace, so sometimes when the palace is too congested, the king cannot run away and is killed.

The most commonly used attacking piece in a smothered checkmate would be the cannon, hence there is a page attributed to it in the basic kills section.However, the pawn, chariot and horse can also smother the opponent's king. The key prinicple is to clog up the entire palace for the final kill.
