Horse Cannon Checkmate 马后炮 mǎ hòu pào

Another very basic kill.
Very commonly used. In the horse cannon checkmate, the horse acts as the cannon mount while controlling 1-2 points in the palace, usually 2 points out of three in a rank or file. The cannon, placed behind the horse, will perform the check of the remainng point in that rank or file.

Incidentally, there is a saying quite commonly used in Chinese called 放马后炮 fàng mǎ hòu pào. It means that someone is stating the obvious or making a comment after the result or consequences are known. Indeed, Xiangqi is deeply rooted in the culture of the Chinese.
