Yan Wenqing and Zhang Qing Trilogy of Books on Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Opening

This opening system is not so commonly seen nowadays but it was one of the earlier ways for Red to attack. Nevertheless, it is an important theme to learn for beginners and is very helpful in helping plan attacks from the central file. Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang share their insights for this opening system.

It is divided into two sections. Red will attack with R2+6 in the first two boards and with C8+2 for the 3rd board and finally attack with C8+4 in the last board.

On this page, Red's attack with R2+6 is discussed.

The Webmaster would like to thank Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang for allowing the author to translate their work into English and share with the English speaking World.

The Webmaster has also made short videos which are available on Youtube:

The authors published an updated version of their books (in Chinese) which is available for sale on Amazon.
