Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Opening Tabia and their Principles:

Central Cannon vs. Screen Horse Defense with High Chariot to Protect Horse Variation (屏风马高车保马)

Yan Wenqing and Zhang Qing Trilogy of Books on Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Opening

This opening system was extremely popular back in 1950s-1970s. Black's High Chariot to Protect Horse Variation is an interesting and subtle counter which Red must be very careful.  Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang share their insights for this opening system.

There are two sections to this opening system. The first section deals with Red attacking with H8+7 and there are two boards. The second section deals with Red attacking with other moves other than H8+7. There are also two boards that were discussed.

This page would deal with Red attacking with H8+7.

The Webmaster would like to thank Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang for allowing the author to translate their work into English and share with the English speaking World.
