Yan Wenqing and Zhang Qing Trilogy of Books on Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Opening

The Same Direction Cannons: Filed Chariot vs. Deferred Chariot is relative a new opening as it started blossoming in the 1970s. It is also a fundamental opening system that must be mastered.
In "Opening Tabia" Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang discussed some of the common way of playing this opening system for both colors.

This opening system is divded into three different sections in the book:

  • Red plays P7+1
  • Red plays H8+7
  • Others

In this page, Red would play H8+9 and also R9+1.

The Webmaster would like to thank Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang for allowing the author to translate their work into English and share with the English speaking World.

The Webmaster has also made short videos which are available on Youtube:

The authors published an updated version of their books (in Chinese) which is available for sale on Amazon.
