Same Direction Cannons: Filed Chariot vs. Ranked Chariot Part 2

Yan Wenqing and Zhang Qing Trilogy of Books on Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Opening

The Same Direction Cannons: Filed Chariot vs. Ranked Chariot is perhaps the most commonly played Same Direction Cannons variation today. It is also a fundamental opening system that must be mastered.
In "Opening Tabia" Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang demonsrated some of the newer ways of playing this opening system.  a

The variation is divded into three different sections in the book:

  • Red Proper Horses and 3rd Pawn Advancement Variation
  • Red Double Headed Snake Pawns vs. Black's Double Ranked Chariot Variation
  • Others

In this page, Red would utilize the Double Headed Snake Pawns while Black counters aggeressively with the Double Ranked Chariots Variation. Black's Double Ranked Chariots is considered perhaps to be his best counter!

The Webmaster would like to thank Master Yan Wenqing and Grandmaster Zhang Qiang for allowing the author to translate their work into English and share with the English speaking World.
The Webmaster has also made short videos which are available on Youtube .

Enjoy!
