The late GM Yang Guanlin was the first National Champion in China, and the first man to have really unified Xiangqi way back in 1957. Prior to the National Championships, there were Xiangqi kings everywhere but no one could stake his claim on being the best in China or the world for that matter.
The great GM was especially well known for his endgame abilities but in the following three examples (from a file I found on the internet) , GM Yang shows profound prowess in midgames too.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery or so the saying goes. And one of the best ways to improve your game is to try to think like the greats.
