Chapter two deals with the perhaps the most played opening and counter in Xiangqi today: the Central Cannon vs Screen Horse Defense.
There are 13 sections to this chapter.
This is the second page of red's right ranked chariot with 7th file horse vs black's screen horse defense. GM Liu DianZhong shows a few more variations and the basic principles of each one. This is the last page in the series. There are volumes written about this opening alone but the boards given are concise and show the general characteristics clearly.
The third board in this page is the only board discussing a not-so-often played variation now: red's 7th file horse vs the screen horse. The chariots are not developed early and red charges the horse forward H7+6 early instead. This is known as the trailblazer horse or 先鋒馬 in chinese. There are important principles to learn in opening theory.
