This is another very commonly played and very complex opening.
Black's Left riverbank horse variation was extremely popular in the 80's and is full of fireworks. However, as both sides walk a tightrope, it has slowly given way to the edge cannon for chariot exchange variation. Nevertheless, it is still often seen in actual competition.
In this variation Black plays the right elephant E3+5 while red answers with 59 cannons to mount an attack of his on on black's right flank.
This work has been collected from a few openings manuals and I have tried to present them in more readable format. I believe it is the basic theory of this opening variation and it also represents the generally accepted orthodox moves.
It is impossible to master this variation just by going through this board alone but at least you will not make certain basic mistakes and understand why some of the moves are made.
