This is a continuation of the board I did yesterday. Click here for C12. Again, it I repeat, it is another very commonly played and very complex, very versatile red opening. It is a less fireworked filled opening. Both Red and Black choose development of their chess pieces over a quick attack.
A point to note, the ECCO classification classifies this as Central cannon with right ranked chariot for red. However, in most literature, this red opening is given as 中炮橫车七路马 or Central Cannon with Ranked Chariot and 7th Filed Horse. I guess for accomplished players or Xq fans who have been around for some time, the original name is more familiar.
For Red, his target of attack is black's left flank and of course, the center.
For black, his primary goal is to defend these above mentioned areas of weaknesses. A natural target for black to attack would be red's right flank.
In this board, black plays the riverbank cannon, hoping to control the riverbank.
Again, this opening is more of a Taichi opening in the sense that the formation and development takes greater improvement over actual attack. The main battle field is in the midgame.
This board is based primarily on the books by Master Zhang Qiang and Master Yan Wenqing. I believe it is the basic theory of this opening variation and it also represnets the generally accepted orthodox moves.
It is impossible to master this variation just by going through this board alone but at least you will not make certain mistakes.
