56 Cannons with Left side horse vs Sandwiched Horse Defense with 7th Pawn Advancement p01
ECCO:B45 五六炮左邊馬對反宮馬

When playing the against the Sandwiched Horse Defense, one common variation that red uses is to play the left side horse early. This opening can metamorphosize into the 56 cannons or 57 cannons and is one of the most commonly played openings that red uses.
56 Cannons with Left side horse variation vs Sandwiched Horse Defense with 7th Pawn Advancement
Black would push the 7th Pawn forward as it is more ideal to develop his left horse.
In this board, red uses the 56 Cannons with left side horse variation. The advantages include being a more defensive formation and that it would indirectly prevent black from playing the right elephant and left ranked chariot variation. However, the downside is that the two horses are relatively undeveloped. Developing the two horses would become an important issue for red.
I have based this board primarily on Master 阎文清 and Master 张强's work after briefly checking it against different manuals by different authors.
The moves give represent the generally "orthodox" moves that have been proven over time in many competitions. However, I do advise the reader to form his conclusions about the various formations as there is no sure-win opening variation in Xiangqi, and different formations may be treated the differently by different people.
I do not expect that anyone will be a master of this opening after going through the boards but at least , do not make the basic mistakes or go against the principles of this opening.
Two of the same boards are presented for you compare the different variations.
Have fun!
